Alliance Relocation’s guide to celebrating Easter 2025 in Central Switzerland:

Traditions & Events in Luzern, Zug, Schwyz, and Zurich

From 12th April to 21st April the fountains in the old town are filled with an abundance of roses

Easter in Switzerland is a fantastic blend of long-held traditions and wonderfully festive and must be said, unusual ways to mark the advent of Spring. Wherever you are in central Switzerland, there's a wealth of activities to immerse yourself in the Easter spirit. Here's a guide to some of our favourite customs and happenings in these regions for Easter 2025.

First let us familiarise ourselves with some great Easter traditions

Egg Tapping (Eiertütschen): A game where participants tap hard-boiled eggs against each other. The goal is to crack the opponent's egg without damaging your own. The winner gets to keep the cracked egg Woo hoo ! 😊

Zwänzgerle: Unique to Zurich, this tradition involves adults attempting to throw a 20-rap coin onto a child's hard-boiled egg. If successful, the adult keeps the coin and the egg; if not, the child retains both. As it is an almost impossible task and I speak from experience, the children tend to come off best in this head-to-head

Osterbrunnen (Easter Fountains):  Especially good in Zürich, the public fountains are filled with colorful eggs, ribbons, and greenery, symbolising life and renewal. This tradition adds a festive touch to town squares and public spaces. It is well worth the time to walk around the many beautiful fountains in Zürich and admire the displays. So far the weather looks like it will be good so it promises to be a great day out

4. Osterbaumli (Easter Trees): Families adorn branches with decorated eggs, creating beautiful Easter trees that brighten homes and symbolise the arrival of spring.

Here are some to make the most of your Easter break  ( Event details are subject to change. Please check official websites or local tourism boards for the latest information links provided below)
